Dear Sir,
I am writing you to express my support to the WALKING TOGETHER Association (SPOLECNOU CESTOU) and its work in Prague –South City.
Our partners in Prague-South City have informed us of the intention of your office to give a notice to the WALKING TOGETHER House.
Our organisation got to knout about this project while an emergency situation this summer, when we were organizing YMCA Europe Festival in Prague. Due to the war in Georgia the flights of almost 80 Georgian and Armenian participants of the event were canceled under force major, with absolutely no assistance from the carrier. WALKING TOGETHER was to the first to offer support, and what is more important compassion. I was responsible for that group and part it and will never forget this helping hand!
The WALKING TOGETHER is a very unique project, doing an excellent work, by helping people in need to integrate back to the society, focusing on the most underprivileged: mothers with small children and Gypsies. We value very much the work of the Azyle House as well as the Advisory Centre.
The work of such organizations and facilities, especially doing social work for the underprivileged, is not only welcome, but fully supported by the local authorities in a democratic society. As a non-governmental organization, the WALKING TOGETHER helps to fulfill the idea a full democratic society.
Very unique on the whole project of WALKING TOGETHER is also the cooperation with the Evangelic Church, which gives the whole project very specific dimension and a guarantee of its focus.
I therefore do not understand your policy of destroying the WALKING TOGETHER Project. I think, it will not only impact the people in need in your city, mothers with children and Gypsies, but it will strongly impact the image of the city of Prague as a city of an incompetent and unfriendly social policy as well as a city of an unfriendly church policy.
Dear Mr. Lord Mayor, I ask you kindly, to reverse your decision and give the WALKING TOGETHER Project full and guarantied support for its further work.
I am looking forward to hear from you.
Sincerely
Vardan Hambardzumyan
YMCA Europe Regional Secretary
