Vážený pane primátore Béme,
Vím, že jste již obdržel řadu dopisů, které vyjadřují znepokojení nad tím, že by centrum SPOLEČNOU CESTOU v Praze 11 mělo být zrušeno. Píšeme, abychom připojili svůj hlas jako ti, kteří jsou zapojeni v práci s lidmi bez domova zde v Glasgowě a také v Atlantě v USA. Potvrzujeme tak svou pevnou podporu práci Centra s rodinami bez domova.
O zamýšleném ukončení pronájmu budov centru Společnou cestou Radou Prahy 11 jsme se dozvěděli od českých přátel a od sboru Milíče z Kroměříže Českobratrské církve evangelické v Praze 11.
My i k církvi přidružené skupiny, ke kterým zde ve Skotsku patříme, jsme se o tento vzácný a unikátní projekt zajímali a podporovali jsme ho. Zprávy o práci centra - poskytování ubytování, poradna pro rodiny bez domova (zvláště matky s malými dětmi a romské rodiny), aby se mohly integrovat ve společnosti, na nás dělaly velký dojem. Spolupráce centra Společnou cestou a sboru Českobratrské církve evangelické je významná a nanejvýš chválihodná, neboť práci dotváří a usměrňuje ji.
Je pro nás těžké pochopit a jsme zklamaní, že se zdá, že přístup Rady Prahy 11 k práci organizace, která pečuje o potřebné, je jiný, než je běžné v demokratické společnosti, kde je tato práce vítána a podporována. Domníváme se, že důvodem rozhodnutí Rady je nedostatek mateřských škol. Doufáme však, že je možné zřídit mateřskou školu v jiné budově poblíž a nebo přímo v centru Společnou cestou. Plánované zrušení centra Společnou cestou navíc způsobí mnohé trápení potřebným lidem ve vašem městě a poškodí pověst města tím, že se jeví jako nepřátelské vůči sociální práci nevládní organizace a práci církví.
Velmi proto doufáme, že rozhodnutí zavřít centrum Společnou cestou bude znovu zváženo a odvoláno a že budete schopen dát práci centra svou plnou podporu.

Dear Mayor Bem,
I know that you have already received a number of letters express concern about the possible closure of the Walking Together Centre - SPOLEČNOU CESTOU in Prague 11. We are writing to add our voice as people with close involvement in work with homeless people elsewhere (both here in Glasgow and in Atlanta, USA) to affirm our strong support for the work of the Centre among homeless families.
We have learned about the proposed termination of the lease for the Walking Together Centre by the Prague 11 Council through Czech friends and the congregation of Milic von Cremsir, within the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in Prague 11.
We, and church-related groups with whom we are associated here in Scotland, have for some time been interested in and supported this unique and valuable project. We have been very impressed by reports of the work of the Centre in providing accommodation and legal advice for homeless families (mainly mothers with small children and Roma families) to enable them to be integrated into society. The cooperation between the Walking Together Centre and the congregation of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren is a significant and most commendable feature that enhances the work and guarantees its focus.
We are disappointed and find it hard to understand why Prague 11 Council appears to have adopted a rather different approach from that expected of local councils in a democratic society, who normally welcome and support the work of an organisation that cares for the underprivileged. We believe that the stated reason for the Council's decision is the lack of kindergarten facilities but understand that there is possible space for a kindergarten either within another building nearby or indeed alongside the Walking Together Centre within the present building. Moreover, the proposed closure will cause much suffering among those in need in your city, and will be detrimental to the image of the city in appearing to be hostile both towards NGO social work and the work of churches.
We very much hope, therefore, that the decision to close the Walking Together Centre will be reconsidered and rescinded and that you will be able to give your full support to the work of the centre.
