Vážený pane Béme, Primátore Hl. m. Prahy,
Obracíme se na Vás, abychom vyjádřili své hluboké znepokojení nad událostmi kolem centra Společnou cestou v Praze 11, a abychom vyjádřili podporu centru, které pracuje s rodinami bez domova. Naši přátelé z Českobratrské církve evangelické v Praze 11, sbor Milíče z Kroměříže, nás informovali, že Rada Prahy 11 ukončila centru Společnou cestou pronájem.
V roce 2004 jsme měli možnost navštívit přátele v Praze a co jsme viděli, na nás udělalo velký dojem. Obzvláště na nás zapůsobila městská doprava, která je mnohem efektivnější než naše skotská. Napsal jsem do celonárodních novin článek, ve kterém jsem vaši dopravu chválil a srovnával ji s naší. Ačkoliv jsme tam strávili jen víkend, viděli jsme hodně a zamilovali jsme si Staré Město a krásné budovy. V neděli ráno jsme šli na bohoslužby do centra Společnou cestou. Centrem jsme byli provedeni a setkali jsme se s některými z rodin, které tam tehdy byly ubytované. Také jsme viděli v těsném sousedství kostel, který byl téměř dostavěn a skutečně jsme obdivovali jeho jednoduché linie a dobré využití prostoru. Mrzelo nás, že jsme se pak nemohli zúčastnit jeho otevření. Připadlo nám, že projekt centra Společnou cestou je úžasný projekt a říkali jsme si, že pražská Rada je velmi pokroková a do budoucna hledící. Péče o ty, kteří jsou zranitelní, zabezpečení domova pro lidi bez domova a jejich integrace do společnosti, jsou vskutku důstojné cíle. Zejména spolupráce Centra se sborem Českobratrské církve evangelické je pozoruhodné a je to něco, nač byste měli být velmi hrdí a jiné státy by si toho měly všimnout.
Místní rady v demokratické společnosti obvykle vítají a podporují práci organizace, která takto pečuje. Proto je těžké porozumět rozhodnutí Rady Prahy 11 ukončit Centru pronájem. Obáváme se, že to velmi poškodí potřebné ve vašem městě a také pověst vašeho města, které se jeví jako nepřátelské vůči sociální práci NGO a práci církve.
Pane Béme, naléhavě Vás žádáme, abyste znovu zvážil rozhodnutí ukončit činnost centra Společnou cestou a abyste práci centra podpořil z celého srdce.

Dear Mr. Bem, Mayor of the City of Prague,
We are writing to you to express our deep concern for the Walking Together Centre - SPOLECNOU CESTOU in Prague 11 and to give our support to the work of the Centre for homeless families.
Our friends from the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in Prague 11, the congregation of Milic von Cremsir, have informed us about the termination of the lease for the Walking Together Centre by the Prague 11 Council.
In 2004 we had the opportunity to visit friends in Prague and were very impressed by what we saw and experienced. We were particularly impressed by the excellent public transport system which was much more efficient than our own in Scotland. In fact I wrote an article for one of our national newspapers praising it and comparing it to our own. Although we were only there for a weekend, we managed to see quite a lot and loved the old city and all the beautiful buildings. On the Sunday morning, we went to a church service in the Walking Together Centre and were shown round the building and met some of the families staying there at the time. We were also shown the nearly completed new church building next to it and really admired its simple lines and good use of space. We were very sorry we couldn't be present at the opening later on. We thought that the Walking Together Centre was a wonderful project and felt that the Prague Council must be very forward-looking and enlightened. Caring for the vulnerable in society, providing a home for homeless people and integrating them into society is indeed a worthy goal. In particular, we thought that the cooperation between the Centre and the congregation of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren was quite remarkable and is something of which you should be very proud and other countries should take note.
Local councils in a democratic society usually welcome and support the work of an organisation that cares in this way. It is hard to understand, therefore, the decision by the Prague 11 Council to terminate the Centre's lease. We fear that this will cause dire consequences for those in need in your city and will also damage the image of the city which would seem hostile towards NGO social work and the work of churches.
Mr. Bem, we ask you urgently to reconsider the decision to close the Walking Together Centre and to give your wholehearted support to the work of the Centre.
