Vážený pane Primátore,
Píši vám, abych vyjádřil své obavy o středisko Společnou cestou v Praze 11 a abych podpořil práci tohoto střediska s rodinami bez domova.
Naši přátelé ze sboru Milíče z Kroměříže Českobratrské církve evangelické v Praze 11 nás informovali, že pronájem středisku Společnou cestou byl ukončen místní radou Prahy 11 v únoru 2009. Jsme také informováni o současné snaze najít pro klienty střediska nové místo. Od 2004 můj sbor v St. Paul v Minnesotě, USA podporoval sbor Milíče z Kroměříže při stavbě kostela, který je v těsném sousedství střediska Společnou cestou. Sdílíme přesvědčení, že středisko je velkým přínosem pro sociální služby obyvatelům Prahy 11.
Věřím, že Společnou cestou je jedinečným zařízením, které pečuje o rodiny bez domova, zejména o matky s malými dětmi a romské rodiny, aby se mohly úspěšně integrovat do společnosti. Můj sbor považuje za zvláště pozoruhodnou nejen práci střediska, které poskytuje ubytování a právní poradnu, ale také spolupráci střediska Společnou cestou se sborem Českobratrské církve evangelické, která jejich práci dává zvláštní rozměr a orientaci.
Když v roce 2004 členové mého sboru v St. Paul jeli do Prahy, aby navštívili středisko Společnou cestou a pomohli s úpravami, které tehdy probíhaly, byli svědky toho, jak program právního poradenství a podpory pro rodiny, které ve středisku žily, byl pro ně důležitý. Ztráta sociálních služeb střediska tím, že klienti budou roztroušeni na různých místech v Praze, zničí dobrou sociální interakci, kterou jsme můj sbor i já dobrovolnou prací a finanční podporou v posledních pěti letech pokoušeli podporovat.
Místní rady v demokratické společnosti obvykle vítají a podporují práci organizace, která pečuje o sociálně slabší. Je těžké rozumět krokům Rady Prahy 11. Poškozují nejen potřebné ve vašem městě, ale též pověst Vašeho města Prahy, které se takto jeví jako nepřátelské vůči sociální práci nevládních organizací jakou je středisko Společnou cestou a práci církevních sborů, jako je náš misijní partner sbor Milíče z Kroměříže Českobratrské církve evangelické.
Já i členové mého sboru Vás naléhavě žádáme, abyste znovu zvážil rozhodnutí přemístit středisko Společnou cestou a abyste práci střediska plně podpořil. Očekáváme, že budeme o výsledku jednání v této věci informováni.

Dear Mr. Bem,
I am writing to you to express my concern for the Walking Together Centre - SPOLEČNOU CESTOU in Prague 11 and to support the work of the Centre for homeless families.
Our friends from the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in Prague 11, the congregation of Milic of Kromeriz, have informed us about the termination in February 2009 of the lease for the Walking Together Centre by the Prague 11 Council and the current efforts to relocate the residents to another location. Since 2004 my congregation in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, has assisted the Milic of Kromeriz congregation in the construction and funding of their new church building, which is attached to the Walking Together Centre, and we share the view that this organization offers a great social service asset to the Prague 11 community.
I believe The Walking Together Centre is a unique project that cares for homeless families, mainly mothers with small children and Roma families, so that they will be able to integrate successfully into society. What my congregation finds quite remarkable is not only the work of the Centre, which provides accommodation and legal counseling advice, but also the cooperation between the Walking Together Centre and the congregation of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, which gives their work a special dimension and focus.
Since 2004, members of my congregation in St. Paul have traveled to Prague to visit and assist with the actual refurbishing of the Walking Together Centre building, and they have seen how meaningful the program of legal counseling and support is to the families who were living in the Centre. To lose these social support services by dispersing the residents to other locations in Prague will devastate the beneficial social effect my congregation and I have tried to support through both our volunteer efforts and financial funding during these past 5 years.
Local councils in a democratic society normally welcome and support the work of an organization that cares for the underprivileged. It is hard to understand the measures the Prague 11 Council has taken, and the resultant effect they will have on homeless people. They will bring dire consequences not only for those in need in your city, but also will damage the image of the city of Prague, which would appear to be hostile towards NGO social work organizations such as the walking Together Centre and the work of church congregations like our mission partner, the Milic of Kromeriz ECCB.
The members of my congregation and I ask you urgently to reconsider the decision to relocate the Walking Together Centre and to give your full support to the work of the Centre. We look forward to being informed of the outcome of your current consideration of this issue.
