Open letter to the Mayor of Prague 11
Dear Mr Mlejnsky,
I was very surprised to see your response to the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security Committee discussion of the case of the Centre for homeless families and mothers with children on the http://www.praha11.cz/cs/jizni-mesto/aktualne-z-jizniho- mesta/reakce-starosty-dalibora-mlejnskeho-na-clanek-v-ctk.html . You complained that no one from the council had been invited to the meeting.
I would like to remind you that whenever the case of the Centre was being discussed you and your councillors deliberately ignored the effect that your decision to close the centre would have on the image of the city of Prague and its international reputation.
You have known since at least the 23 April 2009 that the Senate Committee would deal with the complaint about the interests of the Czech Republic abroad being harmed when the councillor Jiri Witzany raised the question at a meeting of the Prague City Council, because you had voted against allowing Mr Matejka to speak on the subject on behalf of the SOS-azyl. The above-mentioned councillor strongly recommended that you attend the Senate committee meeting when “the shame” would be discussed.
I would also like to remind you that in issue 6 of Klic magazine, which was devoted to the problem of kindergartens and the centre for homeless mothers, the opinions neither of the Walking Together association nor the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren congregation were published although we had submitted our contribution on 22 December 2008.
Neither have we ever received a reply to our question as to why you leased part of the primary school in Donovalska Street to a private grammar school at the beginning of 2008 when you must have known that more kindergarten places would be needed. You should not have to build a new kindergarten.
There is yet another thing in your management of public affairs that I can neither understand nor accept: it is the intention to establish a centre for homeless mothers with children under your management and invest 19.3 mil CZK in the reconstruction of the Walking Together centre as a kindergarten. You will find more information regarding these problems on http://www.sos- azyl.cz .
If you are seriously willing to engage in a real dialogue with us, I am sure you will post this letter on the web-site of Prague 11 local council.
Yours sincerely,
Pavel Hejda
session clerk of the ECCB congregation in Prague – Southern City
