Vážený pane Béme,

V červnu 2004 pani Ida Johnsonová a pan Jim Olson cestovali do Prahy se skupinou, kterou vedl pan farář Thomas Forster-Smith, jeden z duchovních sboru ‘House of Hope' presbyterní církve v St.Paul, v Minnesotě, USA. Ve skupině byli další členové sboru ‘House of Hope'. Přestože jsme členy Ústředního sboru presbyterní církve v St. Paul, sdílíme jejich přesvědčení, že práce, kterou sbor Českobratrské církve evangelické v Praze vykonává v centru Společnou cestou je odpovědná a zásadní pro rozvoj služby ve společnosti a pro šíření křesťanského způsobu života.

Když jsme v Praze byli, nocovali jsme v Husově domě v centru Prahy a po celý týden jsme každý den jezdili na Jižní Město, abychom pomáhali při výstavbě kostela a centra Společnou cestou. Velice na nás zapůsobilo, jak evangelickému sboru záleželo na rodinách v nouzi a bez domova, které tam v té době byly ubytovány. Viděli jsme, že obyvatelé centra byli vnímaví a odpovědní a záleželo jim na zlepšení jejich životních podmínek. Kromě práce na pozemku kolem kostela a budovy Společné cesty jsme měli s obyvateli centra společné akce a obdivovali jsme jejich touhu stát se odpovědnými občany České republiky. Děti z centra byly inspirací nám všem. Kdybychom měli možnost s nimi znovu pracovat, naší odpovědí by bylo hlasité ‘ANO'.

Přátelé z Českobratrské církve evangelické v Praze 11, sboru Milíče z Kroměříže, nás informovali o tom, že Rada Prahy 11 ukončuje centru Společnou cestou pronájem.

Pane Béme, naléhavě a upřímě Vás žádáme, abyste znovu zvážil rozhodnutí zavřít centrum Společnou cestou a abyste pokračování v hodnotné práci centra plně podpořil.

Dear Mr. Bem:

In June of 2004 Mrs. Ida M. Johnson and Mr. Jim Olson, traveled to Prague with a group led by Rev. Thomas Foster-Smith, one of the pastors at the House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. We were joined by other member of the House of Hope Congregation. Although we are members of Central Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, we share their firm belief that the work being done by the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in Prague at the Walking Together Center are true, vital growing places of Christian worship and service to the community.

While in Prague, we roomed at the Jan Hus House in central Prague, traveled each day for a week to work in the developing Church and the Walking Together Center. We were both truly inspired by the dedication and concern shown by the Church for the underprivileged, homeless families living there at that time. We found the residents, many of them people with children to be interesting, kind concerned people, working to improve their status in life. In addition to working on the areas outside the church and center, we interacted with the residents and were impressed by their desire to become loyal dedicated citizens of the Czech Republic. The children were an inspiration to all of us. Should we be affprded the opportunity to work with them again, the answer would be a resounding, "YES".

Our friends from the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren in Prague (Congregation of Milic von Cremsir) have informed us about the termination of the lease for the Walking Together Center by the Prague 11 Council.

Mr. Bem, we urgently and sincerely request you to reconsider the decision to close the Walking Together Center and also to give your full support to the continuation of the valuable work being done there.
