Vážený pane Béme, Primátore hlavního města Prahy,
Píši Vám, abych vyjádřil své znepokojení nad zamýšleným ukončením pronájmu budov, ve kterých sídlí centrum Společnou cestou v Praze 11.
Od 70. let jsem Prahu navštívil mnohokrát a poslední dobou jsem obdivoval, jak se jedno z nejkrásnějších měst v Evropě po mnoha stránkách obnovuje. Proto jsem byl hluboce otřesen, když mi několik z přátel sdělilo, že Rada Prahy 11 ukončila centru Společnou cestou pronájem, zřejmě bez jakékoliv kozultace.
Pracoval jsem v Manchesteru, mém městě, s mladými i staršími lidmi, kteří potřebovali bydlení. Ze své zkušenosti vím, že ať jsou ti, co řídí a plánují další rozvoj, sebevíce prozíraví, někteří zranitelní lidé budou stejně potřebovat zvláštní zaopatření, aby přežili.
V péči o potřeby spoluboyvatel mají nevládní organizace vedoucí úlohu, i když v posledku státní prostředky jsou jediným zdrojem, jak se se soucitem postarat v takovém rozsahu, jaký je potřebný. Věřím, že pýcha města nezávisí jenom na kvalitě budov a obchodního a průmyslového rozvoje, ale take na výši soucítění s těmi, kteří jsou nejzranitelnejší.
Velmi doufám, že budete schopen najít způsob, aby o potřeby lidí v centru Společnou cestou bylo plně postaráno. Zvýšíte tak reputaci svého města.

Dear Mr Bem, Mayor of the city of Prague,
I are writing to you to express my concern over the proposed termination of the lease of the buildings housing the WALKNG TOGETHER CENTRE-SPOLECNOU CESTOU in Prague11.
I have visited Prague a number of times beginning in the 1970s and have more recently admired many aspects of the work of restoration of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. I am therefore deeply shocked to learn from several friends that the lease for the WALKING TOGETHER CENTRE has been terminated apparently without any consultation by the Prague11 Council.
In my own city of Manchester I have been professionally involved with the housing needs of both young and older people. It has been my experience that however forward looking those who control and plan development are, some vulnerable people will need special provision to survive.
In this field non governmental organisations have typically spearheaded a response to the needs of such members of the community even if later State resources are in the end the only means of taking compassionate action on a scale that may be needed.
I believe the greatness of a city rests not only on the quality of its buildings and its business development but also on the quality of its compassion to those who are the most vulnerable .
I hope very much that you may be able to find a way in which the needs of the people in the WALKING TOGETHER CENTRE can be fully met. This will only enhance the reputation of your city.
