Vážený pane starosto,
Píši Vám, abych vyjádřil svou starost způsobenou zprávami z Prahy o středisku Společnou cestou v Praze 11, které bylo na konci února zrušeno.
Mám dlouholeté osobní vztahy s tamním sborem Milíče z Kroměříže Českobratrské církve evangelické, který nedávno postavil kostel v sousedství střediska Společnou cestou a který řadu let se střediskem těsně spolupracoval a podporoval jeho práci.
Středisko Společnou cestou bylo výjimečným projektem, v jehož rámci bylo pečováno o rodiny bez domova, obzvláště o matky s malými dětmi a romské rodiny a bylo jim pomáháno se navrátit do běžného života. Středisko bylo, pokud je mi známo, unikátní nejen proto, že poskytovalo ubytování a právní poradenství, ale také proto, protože těsně spolupracovalo se sousedícím sborem ČCE. Těsná spolupráce střediska a sboru dodávala práci střediska zvláštní dimenzi a zajišťovala, že práce střediska měla pro zranitelné rodiny, které tam nacházely přístřeší a podporu velký význam.
Místní rady ve většině demokratických společností vítají a podporují práci organizací, které pečují o sociálně slabší a marginalizované spoluobčany. Je těžké pochopit, proč se Rada Prahy 11 takto rozhodla, neboť tento postup těžce poškodí nejen ty nejpotřebnější a nejzranitelnější obyvatele Prahy, ale též pověst hlavního města České republiky, které se bude jevit jako město, které se nestará o své obyvatele a které má nepřátelský postoj vůči snaze církví a ostatních nevládních organizací společně budovat lepší společnost.
Pane Starosto, jako starostu Prahy 11 Vás žádám, abyste znovu zvážil rozhodnutí přestavět středisko Společnou cestou na mateřskou školu a abyste práci střediska plně podpořil. Očekávám, že mě o výsledku jednání v této věci budete informovat.

Dear Mr Mlejnsky,
I am writing to you to express my concern at the news I have received from Prague regarding the ‘Walking Together Centre' - SPOLECNOU CESTOU in Prague 11, which was closed at the end of February.
I have a long-standing personal connection with the local ‘Milic z Kremsir' congregation of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren whose church has recently been built on a site neighbouring the ‘Spolecnou Cestou' centre, and which has for a number of years worked closely with the centre and supported its work.
The Walking Together Centre was a unique project that cared for homeless families, mainly mothers with small children and Roma families, helping them to integrate into mainstream society. The Centre was, as far as I am aware, unique in not only providing accommodation and legal advice, but also for the close co-operation between the ‘Spolecnou Cestou' centre and the neighbouring ECCB congregation. This close association between the centre and the congregation gave their work a special dimension and guaranteed that the Centre's work made a real difference to the lives of vulnerable families who found shelter and support there.
In most free and democratic societies, local governments welcome and support the work of organisations that care for the underprivileged and marginalised in society. It is hard to understand the reasoning behind the actions taken by the Local Council of Prague 11 as they will have dire consequences not only for some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in Prague, but also for the image of the Capital of the Czech Republic, which will be made to look like a city which does not care for its citizens, and which is hostile towards the efforts of churches and other non-governmental associations to work together to build a better society.
Mr Mlejnsky, I ask you, as the Mayor of Prague 11, to reconsider the decision to rebuild the Walking Together Centre into a kindergarten and to give your full support to the work of the Centre. I look forward to being informed of the outcome of your current consideration of this issue.
