Vážený pane doktore Béme,
Píši Vám, abych vyjádřil své znepokojení sboru Metodistické církve v Notting Hill v Londýně nad událostmi kolem centra Společnou cestou v Praze 11
Přátelé z Českobratrské církve evangelické v Praze 11, nás informovali o tom, že Rada Prahy 11 ukončila centru Společnou cestou pronájem. Vím o práci tohoto sboru několik let díky kontaktům s předchozím farářem, Tomášem Bískem, a kostel jsem navštívil, když byl ještě ve stavbě. Tehdy jsem viděl, jak dobrou práci centrum Společnou cestou, které je hned v sousedství, odvádí péčí o rodiny bez domova, kterým pomáhá vrátit se zpět do společnosti. Náš sbor, který přispěl malou částkou na stavbu kostela, má ve svých prostorách ve vnitřním Londýně centrum pro lidi bez domova a potřebují podobnou podporu.
Před několika lety jsem se v Praze účastnil společné česko-britské iniciativy podporované fondem "William Sutton Trust", kde jsme porovnávali přístup našich států k politice bydlení a pokoušeli jsme se přijít na to, v čem bychom se od sebe mohli vzájemně poučit. Spolupráce veřejných úřadů s nevládními organizacemi je v naší zemi zásadní pro dosažení zlepšení situace bydlení pro ty nepotřebnější.
Rozhodnutí Rady Prahy 11 je pro nás těžko pochopitelné, protože s velkou pravděpodobností způsobí velké strádání a povede k nesnázím jinde ve vašem městě. Doufám, že snad najdete možnost, jak ovlivnit, aby rozhodnutí ukončení pronájmu centru Společnou cestou bylo nově zváženo a aby město činnost centra podpořilo.

I am writing to you to express the concern of Notting Hill Methodist Church in London for the Walking Together Centre in Prague 11.
Our friends from the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in Prague11 have informed us about the termination of the lease for the Walking Together Centre by the Prague 11 Council. I have known the work of the Church for several years through contact with its previous pastor, Tomas Bisek, and visited the Church when it was under construction. At that time I saw the good work of the Walking Together Centre next door in its care for homeless families, to help integration into society. Our Church made a small contribution to the construction of the Church, and in fact has a centre within its own premises in inner London for people who have been homeless and need similar support.
A few years ago I took part in the joint Czech/British initiative in Prague supported by the William Sutton Trust which compared our countries' approaches to housing policy, and tried to discern the lessons we could learn from each other. The collaboration of public authorities with non governmental organisations has been essential in our country to achieve improvements in the housing situation for the least privileged.
We find it hard to understand the measure the Prague 11 Council has taken which seems very likely to cause great hardship, and lead to pressures elsewhere in your city. I hope that you may be able to obtain reconsideration of the decision to terminate the Walking Together Centre's lease and give the city's support to the centre's work.
